My Review of Forget Me Not by Allison Whitmore

I really love historical fiction and this book did not disappoint.  In fact, it's one of the best historical fiction stories I've read in a long time.
The story is about a young girl named Teddie and a boy named Calvin. We know from the beginning that Calvin's family is involved in the death of Teddie's parents but exactly what happened isn't foretold immediately.  And while it may seem obvious that eventually Teddi and Calvin will meet and fall in love (because that's how these stories usually go) Whitmore leaves us guessing as the story unfolds. Nothing seems easy for the couple as they meet, fall in like, become pushed apart, fall in love, are pushed further apart, and ultimately have more obstacles to overcome than any young couple ever should.
All of Whitmore's characters are fully developed, including her secondary ones, like Teddie's grandparents and the folks who live at the boys home with Calvin.  It's very easy to love her grandfather and hate her grandmother from the first time we meet them.  The glimpses into their heads are subtle and telling. Likewise, the pace is steady and keeps the reader moving along. You'll want to read it in one sitting.
I have read a lot of disappointing books lately but I'm thankful to say this is not one of them.  Check it out for yourself here. I gave it a 5 star Amazon review, which you can read here.  The current price is $2.99 and it is worth it!
